US soccer forward Charlie Davies was seriously injured in a deadly car accident in Virginia. Davies is in a stable condition after 3 hours of surgery. Another passenger Ashley Roberta was dead at the scene.

While his injuries are not life-threatening, they might be career-threatening, said a US Soccer spokesman. The collision fractured Davies' right leg, left elbow, face, and injured his bladder.

The car single-vehicle accident happened on the George Washington Parkway. The vehicle was torn in half.

Another woman traveling in the car was taken to Washington Hospital Center for treatment after their car struck a metal guardrail on a stretch of road between the Memorial Bridge and the Pentagon around 3:15 a.m., said U.S. Park Police spokesman Sgt. David Schlosser.

Sgt. Schlosser said the accident will take at least one or two weeks to investigate.

"It's a complicated crash reconstruction," he said. "We won't have any answers right away."

US Coach Bob Bradley said, "as a team we are saddened to learn this news," and "our thoughts and prayers are with Charlie and his family, as well as the people in the car and the families of the others involved."

Davies had made 17 appearances for the US, and scored 4 goals.

His teammate Stuart Holden said on twitter that fans can send their messages to Charlie via email: charliedavies9@yahoo.com.
