Chennai Super Kings wins the IPL 4 trophy
The fourth season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) finished on Saturday (28 May 2011) with the final match between Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore at MA Chidambaram Stadium. With a 58-run victory against Royal Challengers Bangalore, Chennai Super Kings could successfully win IPL trophy for the second time. CSK won the toss and chose to bat first. Thanks to opening pair- Murali Vijay and Michael Hussey, CSK could keep the IPL trophy in their home ground. This pair shared a 159-run partnership in the opening stand. Murali Vijay played an aggressive innings of 52-ball 95 where he hit four boundaries and six over boundaries while Australian player, Michael Hussey, scored 63 runs facing 45 balls, including three fours and three sixes. After them, only CSK skipper, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, could pass the double figure as he scored 22 runs from 13 balls. In their limited overs, CSK could put up an unbeatable 205 runs for the loss of 5 wickets. In reply, RCB scored 147 runs for 8. RCB’s one of the key players, Chris Gayle, failed to lead his team with the bat as he got out before adding any score on the score board. Because of his early dismissal, RCB fell into huge pressure. Virat Kohli and Saurabh Tiwary respectively scored 35 and 42 runs. However, their big innings could not help his team avoiding the defeat. After batsmen, CSK spinners dominated the match with the ball. Ravichandran Ashwin took three wickets while Shadab Jakati took two wickets. Bollinger, Raina and Bravo took one wicket each. Though Chris Gayle failed with the bat, he took two wickets with the ball. Sreenath Aravind also took two wickets for RCB. Murali Vijay was awarded player of the match for his important innings. Player of the series award went to Chris Gayle to whom the RCB had become heavily depended to win the games.
