Chicago has been eliminated from the 2016 Olympic bid - the IOC has voted and Chicago is already out of the running.

People were watching in Daley Plaza in Chicago and the crowd gasped when the announcement was made.

Rio, Madrid, and Tokyo is still in the running, but everyone seems stunned by the news.

Each of the cities gets a number of votes in the first round of voting and clearly Chicago did not get enough votes to even make it in to the second round.

The 2016 Olympic announcement time and watch the rest of the votes online.

There is alot of hoohaa about the 2016 Olympics being held in Chicago, U.S.A. According to ESPN Chicago, there are doubts whether or not the money invested in promoting the event, or even if they get the 2016 Olympics are even worth the hassle. The Chicago bid cost an estimated $48 million, and the price tag for the operating budget is an approximately $3.8 billion and another estimated $1 billion on construction.

Roy C I agree. Actually I am somewhat relieved that Chicago was not chosen. It would of been a huge political football that would have only deepened the division between the parties. I believe Rio is an excellent spot for the Games. They certainly know how to run a festival. I anticipate the Games will also be a festive event. This has nothing to do with the current subject but I just heard on the television President Obama is coming to Boston at the end of the month to show support for the State Governor....Deval Patrick. This should be good.
