China denies 'link' to Greek doping scandal

CHINA said yesterday Greek media reports blaming the "positive" doping test results of that nation's weightlifting team on a Shanghai-based drug maker were wrong.

"The Chinese side paid great attention to the issue, and according to our initial investigation, the facts were not in accord with what had been reported by some foreign media," said Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu.

Greek weightlifting coach Christos Iakovou was suspended last Friday after 11 athletes from his 14-member team failed tests made by the World Anti-Doping Agency.
