Police in Apopka, Florida are searching for James Martin, who allegedly shot and stabbed his wife, boxing legend Christy Martin, during a domestic dispute.

Christy Martin flagged down a passing motorist who brought her to Florida Hospital North. Presenting stab and gunshot wounds in her torso and leg, Christy Martin told police that her husband was her attacker.

A sheriff's spokesman said Wednesday that he didn't know the extent of Christy Martin's injuries, nor why the couple had been fighting.

Christy Martin was a pioneer in women's boxing in the 1990s, once landing on the cover of Sports Illustrated.

Christy and James Martin had been fighting intensely: police were calld to their house twice on November 23: once to find no evidence of violence, and several hours later after Christy Martin was brought to the hospital. James Martin was described as a potential danger to himself, and is allegedly suicidal.

Investigators did not find Jim Martin at the couple's Apopka home, but they did see evidence of a violent struggle. Authorities continue to search for Jim Martin, who is described as a 5 foot, 10-inch, 165-pound, bald white man with brown eyes.

Jim Martin may be a danger to himself and deputies say they are concerned for his safety.
