The Cleveland Sports Curse, Will Get Bigger and Bigger

The "Cleveland Sports Curse" can be seen as a myth or just bad luck. It's a matter of how you look at it. It's not a curse, but it sure looks like one. Bad luck the city hasn't seen a Championship since Jim Brown was with the Cleveland Browns in 1964. The LeBron James decision to move his talent to South Beach will forever be in the minds of its fans. So to them they are cursed and its even bigger now after all of this. 

10, 20, 30 years from now people will ask you. Do you remember where you were on July 8, 2010 around 9:30 pm when LeBron made his heart-breaking announcement?

Most people will remember where they were at home looking at it on ESPN SportsCenter, in a restaurant, a bar, driving home late from work, walking the dog etc...   

Then there is the aftermath. Owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers Dan Gilbert gets irate and responds to James' leaving. It gets magnified because he spits venom that causes the Rev. Jesse Jackson to respond with a statement that Gilbert believes  "LeBron is a Runaway Slave".

Let's look at this situation. LeBron leaves Cleveland for Miami (life goes on get another star). Dan Gilbert the owner of the Cavaliers acts like someone stole personal property from him (LeBron James).

The NBA Commissioner David Stern has to fine Gilbert 100,000 dollars for his comments about James (Gilbert looks even worse). James is black like 78-80% of the NBA and Gilbert will have a tough time getting another superstar player because of his statement and how it is perceived (They never had a superstar free-agent before. Shaq was past his prime).

Jesse Jackson's stance on James is considered one of his best moves in recent years (thanks to Dan Gilbert).  In a little more than one month the Cavaliers lost its coach, General Manager, and the leagues top player and back-to-back MVP. As the late rapper Notorious B.I.G. once rapped about 'Things Done Changed.'

Things haven't changed that much for Cleveland sports. They are still searching for a Championship.

Dan Gilbert should've been gracious and said:

I am saddened by LeBron's decision (to sign with the Miami Heat) we would've been extremely happy for him to return to the Cleveland Cavaliers. There were some great moments that he has contributed to this franchise over the past 7-years (an Eastern Conference Championship and a trip to the NBA Finals in 2007) and we wish him all the best in his future endeavors. We will seek to fill the huge void that he was a player, teammate, and member of the Cavalier family. I am devoted to bring the city of Cleveland a Championship, and I guess we will have to that without the services of LeBron James. If Mr. Gilbert would've used that approach he would've showed a lot of class, and how he values his past and present players. He now looks like an Al Davis and the last time I remember the Raiders haven't won a Super Bowl (1984) in a while and their former number 1 draft pick (JaMarcus Russell) might be the worst number 1 of all-time. 

Well Cleveland if things do fall apart there is always the NBA Lottery. You got James in 2003. There might be a sun at the end of the rainbow in 2033, 34, or 35. Until then the curse will get bigger and bigger.
