For The Clippers The Third Time Is The Charm
Nanaimo, Vancouver Island, Canada
BCHL Hockey
The Nanaimo Clippers found the winning formula against the Victoria Grizzlies last night in a 5 to 3 victory. The Clippers came out strong in the first period and quickly went ahead two/zero. Second period the Grizzlies made a comeback and by the third period the Grizzlies had tied the game three all. It looked like a repeat of the first two games against the Grizzlies in which the Victoria team took victory.
The Grizzlies outshot the Shipmen but were frustrated by the goaltending of the Clippers. The Clippers scored the game winner to put them ahead and to garnish the win scored an empty net goal in the final minute.
It was not an easy game for the Clippers, but a sweet one. Their goal-tender, Smith, was named first star of the game as he made some heroic saves, especially during the five/three rushes when the Clippers were killing penalties.
The Clippers meet the Alberni Bulldogs next Friday in Nanaimo for the first time this season.
