Club America Loses to Monterrey 2-0: Mexican Soccer League Finals
Club America is close to being eliminated from the Mexican League Competition for the 2009-2010 season after its loss to Monterrey in a crucial game which took place in the Estadio Tecnologico in Monterrey, Jalisco, Mexico.
The first half of this important game for both teams started with Club America being in possession of the ball and the game. Angel Reyna was able to score the first goal of the game within 26 minutes with a direct goal kick that sidelined the goalkeeper of Monterrey Jose Maria Basanta.
2nd Half Dominated by Monterrey
Club America began to show signs of faltering after the goal was scored and remained so for the duration of the game.The coach, Chucho Ramirez, made errors in substitutions that cost the team dearly. The club began to suffer further when Aquivaldo Mosquera was expelled from the game for unprofessional behavior.
Monterrey took advantage of the situation with Club America when Sergio Santana took the ball after an attempted play between Aquivaldo Mosquera and Neri Cardozo by kicking it for a winner. The result was an equalizer that energized Monterrey and its supporters. Abraham Carreno took advantage of an opening to make it 2 to 0.
Abraham Carreno was MVP because of the 7 goals scored during the 2010 Bicentennial Tournament in Mexico.
Other Mexican League Results
Club America's Salvador Cabanas [who was shot in the head at Bar Bar in January of this year] has been showing signs of recovery since his arrival in Argentina. He may be going to South Africa as a spectator for the Paraguayan National Soccer Team.
Atlas defeated Chivas of Guadalajara 2-0 in order to be crowned "Kings of Guadalajara" thanks to 2 goals by Heber Alvarez at 13 minutes and 67 minutes as well as a weak Chivas team. Heber Alvarez was declared MVP for his 5 goals during the 2010 Mexican Bicentennial Tournament.
Queretaro defeated Estudiantes de Teco 1-0 thanks to a goal scored by Isaac Romo within 77 minutes.
Jaguares of Chiapas defeated Los Indios of Ciudad Juarez 1-0 on its home turf in Tuxla Gutierrez, Chiapas, Mexico.
Tigres defeated Atlante 2-1 in its tournament game.
