Cole Vanderbilt Foul Video: High School Basketball Player Exposed
Is Cole Vanderbilt Really 'The Dirtiest Player in High School Basketball'? Video Exposes Dirty Players, Inept Refs in High School Basketball Game
Yakima, Washington resident Michael Christenson wanted to expose the shoddy reffing in the local high school basketball league, so he put together a "highlight reel" of blatant fouls during a Connell-Highland game that did not result in the ref calling a foul.
Christenson was a little too successful: aside from showing the referees to be inept, it also portrayed Connell seniors Cole Vanderbilt and Kennan VanHollebekeas dirty players.
The backlash that emerged has been mostly against Cole Vanderbilt.
After Christenson uploaded the video to Facebook, he transferred it to YouTube. A day later, it was picked up by guyism.com and posted under the heading, "VIDEO: The dirtiest basketball player in America."
That couldn't be any further from the truth, according to Vanderbilt's grandmother, Karen Vanderbilt of Connell.
Here's a link to the Guyism article. "The dirties player in high school basketball" is a big claim to make, but Vanderbilt seems to be making an effort to claim the title: all of these fouls take place during one game.
Connell coach Oscar Garza described Cole Vanderbilt as "a teddy bear", which will be an extremely tough sell to the public: Vanderbilt is displaying some egregiously dirty playing in the video, and there's no legitimate way to deny it.
In the description of the YouTube video, which you can see below, Christenson wrote, "The W.I.A.A. needs to take a closer look at this before a player suffers a serious injury."
