The 2009 Columbus Marathon took place on Oct. 18. The Columbus Marathon was won by Matthew Folk, who finished with a time of 2 hours, 20 minutes, and 45 seconds. Folk of Perrysburg, Ohio, narrowly beat out Kenya's Richard Kessio, who led for the first 25 miles of the Columbus Marathon. 

Rachel Kinsmen of Archbold, OH won the women's category. Unlike Folk, Kinsmen dominated the 2009 Columbus Marathon. She took an early lead and never relinquished it, finishing with a time of 2:47:44. Maureen Bean Wrenn of Colorado finished second in 2:48:34.
