Spain's Alberto Contador won on his home soil, taking the Vuelta a España with a time of 80 hours, 40 minutes, and 8 seconds. The 25-year-old Spaniard is one of a handful of cyclists to have won cycling's three major races: The Tour de France, Giro d' Italia and Vuelta a España.
Even more remarkable is the fact that Contador won all three races in a record span of 14 months. Prior to Contador, the record was held by Frenchman Bernard Hinault who took 26 months to win cycling's biggest races. The only other cyclists to achieved the feat are France's Jacques Anquetil, Felice Gimondi, and legendary Belgian cyclist Eddy Merckx.
