Could the Cowboys-Giants game come down to Terrell Owens’ health?
It’s pretty much a given that when Terrell Owens is involved in a game, it’s usually a good thing for whatever team he is playing for. In this case the Dallas Cowboys are desperately hoping for a healthy Terrell Owens in efforts to defeat the New York Giants.
Sure the Cowboys have the more Pro Bowl guys than anyone but don’t be fooled, they need T.O. to play at a decent level ( if not this will definitely affect NFL betting lines)for Dallas to be happy about their chances (he suffered a high ankle sprain in week 16).
Looking at the receiving unit for Dallas, Sam Hurd and Miles Austin have proven to be productive backups while veteran Terry Glenn is back from a season long injury. Glenn used to be very good but at this point in his career, with limited action anything he produces is a bonus. A hobbled T.O. could help in goal line situation or to simply act as a decoy, but a one-dimensional attack could result in tough times for the Dallas offense.
But, let’s not forget Tony Romo is one of the best quarterbacks in the game and should be ready to avenge his humiliating loss last year (fumbled field goal attempt). Without a healthy Owens, Romo will likely pick his spots and do his best to move the chains. Tight End Jason Witten became the best in the NFC, with 96 catches for 1145 yards. Those are sick numbers.
Back up Marion Barber has combined for over 1,000 yards running and receiving. Along with Julius Jones the Cowboys have a wonderful thing brewing; two you runningbacks who are very good.
The New York Giants counter with RB Brandon Jacobs, who really saved the Giants season when he rushed for over 1,000 yards.
Plaxico Burress is the X-Factor type of guy for Eli Manning, whose innocence seems like an NFL Playoff nightmare waiting to happen. If Manning can get a couple long range attempts to Burress, the running game for Jacobs should open up behind a very good offensive line (4th rush offense). Mix in some slant passes to veteran Amani Toomer and things could get fun.
Jeremy Shockey is out with a broken fibula, which really hurts this offense.
I like the physical brand of football that the Giants bring. They proved against New England that they desperately want to become a force in the NFL. That Eli Manning can prove his worth just like his brother.
On the flip side Tony Romo is already a little more respected but has yet to prove anything come playoff time.
It’s do or die time and I’ll make the call, with or without T.O. it will be a dog fight. Also, with or without T.O. I like Dallas to win because of depth and home field advantage.

Man I love this matchup. Two quarterbacks with a lot on the line. I don't think that Tom Coughlin gets enough credit for playing his full lineup against the Patriots - last week the Giants looked like a different team. If both TO and Shockey are out that's a fair trade off... which puts it on Manning and Romo. This should be as classic a game as you can get on carpet.
