Dana Payne: 15-Year-Old Dies at Football Practice
Millington High School Football Player Dana Payne Died During Practice
Dana Payne, a 15-year-old sophomore at Millington High School in Millington, Tennessee, died during football practice on August 21, 2012.
At around 5pm, Dana Payne complained of chest pains, became unresponsive, and was dead within minutes.
Earlier in the practice session, Dana Payne had caught a pass and was tackled by a teammate. Coach Chris Michael said that Payne didn't get up after the hit, and that's when the paramedics were called.
Apparently Payne's condition deteriorated rapidly, and he began to have trouble breathing. When Payne's breathing stopped, the paramedics performed CPR.
Payne died on the way to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital.
Dana Payne, who took medication for asthma, wanted to become a doctor.
