One of the most controversial moments of Week 6 of the NFL season came when Carolina Panther Dante Wesley hit Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Clifton Smith as he tried to return on a punt. 

Dante Wesley ran down the field to defend the punt return and leveled Clifton Smith well before he had a chance to catch the ball. Smith lay motionless on the field for several moments. Clifton Smith sat out the rest of the game for the Bucs.

Afterwards, both teams got into a heated shoving match as Bucs players sought to avenge the vicious Dante Wesley hit on Clifton Smith.

Tampa fans chanted, "Throw him out! Throw him out!" Indeed, refs gave the crowd what they wanted and ejected Wesley from the game. Dante Wesley will likely face further punishment from NFL head office in the coming days.
