MUSSOORIE, Aug 30: DAV (PG) College-A girls’ team won the final on the second day of the Dhyan Chand Memorial Hockey Tournament by defeating DAV (PG)-B team 2-0 at Appu Ghar ground in Mussoorie. Sheetal Rawat and Sudha scored the goals. The trophy will be presented on the final day to the winning team.
In other fixtures in the sub-junior division, Taj Sports ‘A’ defeated GIC Kempty by a solitary goal and entered the finals. The winning goal was scored by Azhar. In the second semi-final, Taj B defeated St Clare’s School in the sudden death by a margin of 1 goal.
The first semi-final in the Junior Boys Division was won by Rama Devi Inter College. They defeated GIC Kempty 3-0. The second semifinal was won by Aryan Club by defeating Guru Nanak Inter College, Dehradun, 2-1. The final will be played between Rama Devi and Aryan Club, tomorrow.
In the Senior Boys division, 15 posted their entries. Out of which, Manav Bharti School B team defeated Woodstock School, 3-2. Woodstock B defeated GIC, Kempty 2-1. GRD Academy defeated Manav Bharti School A by one goal. The concluding match of the day was played between Taj Club A and Woodstock School C. Taj Club won 3-0.
Ajay Mark, the Physical Instructor at Woodstock School was happy with the fact that “Mussoorie Khel Sangh” had taken pains in organising the Hockey tournament. He said that the standard of sports in the schools of Mussoorie had taken a beating due to personal egos of some Principals and the same old glory of sports like hockey needed to be revived once again in schools of Mussoorie. He asserted that Woodstock School would always support such initiatives undertaken by any school.
Mandy Nurrenbern, another Physical education teacher at Woodstock School said that their school was keen on promoting women’s hockey in the school. The students are enthusiastic as 22 girls turned up for the tournament. She added that such tournaments will go a long way in helping the school assess the progress of women Hockey in the school. for more go to

azzayindia, I like this story. Great photos too. Is hockey popular in Mussoorie?

yes it is popular in Mussoorie especially among not so rich schools but as the cost of kits and sticks are spiralling it is becoming difficult for kids to support the game.
