Dave Sittler Calls former OU Coach John Blake "Slapd*ck" (Video)
Tulsa World Columnist Dave Sittler: 'John Blake Hired Because He Was Black'
When Tulsa World columnist Dave Sittler turned off his recorder for a post-interview, off-the-record chat with Oklahoma State defensive coordinator Bill Young after the 2011 Fiesta Bowl, perhaps he should have made sure that other cameras weren't still recording.
Alas, other cameras were recording, and so Dave Sittler was caught on video calling former OU coach John Blake a "slapdick" as they discussed Bill Young's time as Oklahoma University's defensive coordinator.
Aside from the fact that "slapdick" is an epic insult, Dave Sittler will have some explaining to do when he gets back to the Tulsa World office.
"That's what I'm—that must frustrate you that you have all this experience, you know what you're doing, and then they give it to some slapdick who hasn't earned his, you know. And then Donnie Duncan flat-out told me he gave it to him because he was black because they were worried about what Bob Simmons was going to do with recruiting. I mean, those things must piss you off."
For his part, Bill Young keeps it all above board, saying that Blake would have done better had he become head coach a bit later in his career.
John Blake coached Oklahoma State from 1996-1998, delivering the worst record in the school's history. Before that, though, John Blake served as defensive line coach for the Dallas Cowboys; during his tenure, the Cowboys won two Super Bowls.
In 2010, John Blake resigned as North Carolina's defensive line coach following a payoff scandal involving agent Gary Wichard.
The 2012 Fiesta Bowl takes place on January 1, as Oklahoma State takes on Stanford.
