David Beckham's Return to LA Galaxy Harsh
English soccer player, David Beckham, had a harsh welcoming to Los Angeles after returning from a five-month loan to AC Milan. The friendly match between Galaxy and Milan was Beckham's first since the end of the loan.
The crowd demonstrated against Beckham by showing homemade signs saying "Go home fraud", "23: Repent", and "Is evil something u are...or something u do". The signs clearly had an affect to Beckham, because at the halftime, he walked towards the Galaxy crowd and waved one fan to come closer. The fan jumped out from the grandstand but the security took him away.
Beckham later commented the incident:
Sometimes it goes beyond it. I tried to shake one of the guy's hands but he didn't want any of it. That's the way it is.
In the 65th minute Beckham lobbed a corner kick to Bryan Jordan, who headed the ball in the net. Instead of celebrating with his teammates, Beckham turned and shouted to the crowd "What do you want". The match ended 2-2.
Earlier this yer, Beckham had said that he would rather play in the Italian club, because "the level-of-play is much greater in Europe". He had also stated that playing in Europe would give him better chance of playing at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Beckham was a great player in his time. It is unfortunate that he received that kind of reception from the fans. Sometimes a little humble pie is good though.
Beckham will be 35 in 2010 and I hope he doesn't make the mistake that so many before him have made, by playing too long.

Yes, he's still quite a player. The crowd should remember his past performances and show some respect. But, if you ask me, Beckham, too, should give some respect to MLS, Galaxy and their fans.

In North America, professional soccer is still in its infant stage. Many have only read Beckham stories and really haven.t seen him play in his better days. With the advent of global television, we are now able to watch a lot of live games in Europe, such as the English Premier League and the Bundesliga, La Liga, etc.
Soccer is competing against ingrained American Sports, such as Football, Basketball, Baseball and the National Hockey League.
On the amateur side, children's leagues the sport has done really well.

The games have changed, yet the crowds are still the same as in the coliseums of the ancient Roman Empire.

I thought it was shocking.
David Beckham's desire to stay in Europe is only the same philosophy that is held by every other professional sports player. Beckham is a Man United fan... but he still felt the need to leave to further his career. Its the way the games been for 20 years. Players will move on to better opportunities or in Beckhams case, to further his England career.
Out of the 3 sides in this Donovan should be preprimanded and the crowds shouldnt be so Naive. Donovan showed a lack of professionalism and the crowds still think a player stays at a club out of loyalty... Thats what shows the US game to be in its infancy. Not the skills on the field. When Beckham was hired by the Galaxy it was mainly to raise profiel and sell shirts... LA Galaxy knew this and so did Beckham.. havent heard him moan once.
For my part, I'm a Chester City FC fan who follows DC United... I was hoping DB would stay at LAG but wanted him to be in the England squad. Now I think he's better off out of the US. Not because of the fans really... some players get booed.. but having to work alongside a guy who wont keep his mouth shut about misconceptions just to highlight his own profile.
Its a shame really.. I was cheering the US run in the confed cup and respected Donovan before he started crying like a baby.

"Humble Pie"?
You've got to be kidding me. David Beckham is known the world over for being modest. He's a quiet guy. Listen to Christiano Ronaldo for 5 minutes and you'll see an over inflated ego.

I agree - he is one of the 'gentlemen' of the game.
He went to Galaxy originally after being treated appallingly by the England national side set up - he thought his 'first class' and international career were finished.
He came to Galaxy and really boosted the game in the US - and he's back again - some players would have walked away completely - he could afford to - but he went back - the fans always have a right to protest at anyhting they feel but protesting at Beckham when he actually came back and is already making goals... ?

Beckham made a mistake going to Galaxy, but who could refuse that kind of money, if he makes it to the world cup next year and England win, who cares, it's all about England.
