David Coulthard: F1 Lincoln Tunnel Run

In a promotional stunt for the Grand Prix of America, Formula One driver David Coulthard raced an F1 show car through the Lincoln Tunnel in about 30 seconds. Coulthard fulfilled a long-standing commuter fantasy, hauling ass through an empty tunnel.

Ironically, the tunnel was closed off for the stunt, adding even further to the commute time for those who thought a wee-hours commute would actually save them time.

Below is the David Coulthard Lincoln Tunnel race video. This is how the Lincoln Tunnel feels to anyone who makes it into second gear during a normal drive. You will turn green with envy, assuaged only by the scream of Coulthard's car's engine.

The Grand Prix of America will take place in New Jersey in June 2013, on a street circuit between East New York and Weehawken. The Lincoln Tunnel won't be involved.

A Grand Prix race with the New York City skyline in the background has been planned (and abandoned) since the Eighties.
