David Villa Out Of Euro 2008 Final June 27th, 2008

SpainDavid Villa Will Miss The Euro 2008 Final Against Germany

It is now official that Spain striker David Villa will miss the Euro 2008 Final with Germany on Sunday in Vienna with the Spanish Football Federation confirming his injury will rule him out.

Villa suffered a muscle tear to the back of his right thigh in the semi final against the Russians in the first half an hour. Immediately after the Russia match, Villa said himself that he would not be fit in time for Sunday and he has now been proved correct.

The Spanish striker is currently the Euro 2008 top goal scorer but he won’t be adding to his tally of four goals now that he has resigned to watching the Final against Germany from the sidelines. Surprisingly the Spanish star has taken missing out on the biggest game of his life rather well.

He gracefully said: I’m a little sad that I won’t be there to take part but it’s better that a team-mate who is fit plays instead of me, particularly as my injury has left me limping quite badly,”

“Now I have to enjoy the show from outside. To play on Sunday would be a lottery.

“I would do it even if I had to play on one leg but this is a team - there are other players who will do better 100% than one who is injured.

The Euro 2008 Final will definitely be missing something without him, after all, he is the competitions top goal scorer but this could see Cesc Fabregas finally get his start after he impressed coming on for Villa against Russia. Will Luis Aragones bring in Fabregas for Villa and play the same system he did against Russia? or will he simply replace Villa with another centre forward? We all want Fabregas!

Thanks for your attention!

In a way, Spain making it to the final is a good outcome for British fans given they didn't qualify. You've got Torres, Alonso and Reina from Liverpool and Fabregas from Arsenal. The only concern is that Torres might be a running on empty after a stellar year at Anfield.

Yeah i totally agree with you kferaday about Torres. He hasn't looked his usual self at Euro 2008. He looks tired and hasn't showed the compusure he has for Liverpool all season.
