The final DC Pro Sports NFL Mock Draft for the 2009 NFL Draft. As always, any resemblance between these predictions and actual events is entirely coincidental. Enjoy.
01. Detroit Lions: QB Matthew Stafford [Georgia]Analysis: This isn't the pick I'd make, but the Lions seem to think they've found their franchise passer. Good luck.
02. St. Louis Rams: OT Jason Smith [Baylor]Analysis: The best player in this draft.
03. Kansas City Chiefs: LB Aaron Curry [Wake Forest]Analysis: Could lead the NFL in tackles 10 times.
04. Seattle Seahawks: QB Mark Sanchez [USC]Analysis: Definitely the "it" guy of this draft. Some love Sanchez, some [like me] think he's still untested. Seattle wants a successor to aging and oft-injured Matt Hasselback.
05. Cleveland Browns: WR DT BJ Raji [Boston College]Analysis: Could go for Michael Crabtree, but the Browns need defense badly and Raji is the best D-lineman in this draft.
06. Cincinnati Bengals: OT Eugene Monroe [Virginia]Analysis: Someone has to protect Carson Palmer and Monroe is a very good pass-blocker.
07. Oakland Raiders: WR Jeremy Maclin [Missouri]Analysis: I'd take Crabtree, but the Raiders love speed.
08. Jacksonville Jaguars: Michael Crabtree [Texas Tech]Analysis: The signing of Torry Holt means the Jags could go another way, but Crabtree is the best WR in this draft [as he'll tell you 10 times before lunch].
09. Green Bay Packers: DE/OLB Brian Orakpo [Texas]Analysis: The defense fell apart last year and Orakpo is a quality edge rusher.
10. San Francisco 49ers: OT Andre Smith [Alabama]Analysis: Smith might be a headcase, but he's a big talent who can be an all star for years if he gets his head screwed on straight. Besides, the Niners need a tackle badly.
11. Buffalo Bills: DE Tyson Jackson [LSU]Analysis: The Bills need help on both lines and Jackson is shooting up draft boards of late.
12. Denver Broncos: DE Aaron Maybin [Penn State]Analysis: Defense Defense Defense.
13. Washington Redskins: DE Robert Ayers [Tennessee]Analysis: Don't be surprised if the Redskins trade this pick and every other pick they have until 2024 for Mark Sanchez. The smart thing to do would be to take Robert Ayers and watch him quickly become the best pass-rusher on the team.
14. New Orleans Saints: DE Everette Brown [Florida State]Analysis: This team needs defense has badly as Denver
does.
15. Houston Texans: OLB Brian Cushing [USC]Analysis: The Texans are trying to trade down because they can fill their needs later in the draft, but if they have to keep the pick, Cushing is the best value here.
16. San Diego Chargers: RB Chris "Beanie" Wells [Ohio State]Analysis: LT isn't getting any younger.
17. New York Jets: TE Brandon Pettigrew [Oklahoma]Analysis: Jets fans might go nuts with this pick [heck -- they'll go nuts anyway], but I think it is a dark horse and Pettigrew is easily the most complete TE in the draft.
18. Denver Broncos: DT Peria Jerry [Mississippi]Analysis: Still Defense Defense Defense
19. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: OLB Clay Matthews [USC]Analysis: Age and attrition leave the Bucs in need of a quality OLB and Matthews is one.
20. Detroit Lions: OT Michael Oher [Mississippi]Analysis: Protect that hugely expensive QB you took 3.5 hours ago.
21. Philadelphia Eagles: RB Knowshown Moreno [Georgia]Analysis: Donovan McNabb wants more offense around him. They got him a tackle [overrated] and Moreno will be a nice one-two punch out of the backfield with Brian Westbrook.
22. Minnesota Vikings: QB Josh Freeman [Kansas State]Analysis: No QB on that team is any kind of a solution. Freeman is a year or two away, but he's a lot cheaper than Stafford or Sanchez and he could be better by 2011.
23. New England Patriots: CB Malcolm Jenkins [Ohio State]Analysis: They had arguably the worst secondary in the NFL last season. Belichick won't let that happen again.
24. Atlanta Falcons: DT Evander Hood [Missouri]Analysis: They no longer need a TE, but they do need some space-eaters up front.
25. Miami Dolphins: CB Vontae Davis [Illinois] Analysis: A lot of people have the Dolphins going WR here, but how often does Bill Parcells use a first round pick on an offensive skill position?
26. Baltimore Ravens: WR Darrius Heyward-Bey [Maryland]Analysis: Keeping Heyward-Bey in the state will be a popular move, but Ozzie Newsome knows the Ravens need more speed on the outside. This guy is faster than any other WR in the draft.
27. Indianapolis Colts: WR Percy Harvin [Florida]Analysis: Okay, he likes weed a lot and is apparently dumb enough to smoke it right before a job interview that includes a drug test. But the Colts need another WR and Harvin could be the best in this draft.
28. Buffalo Bills: OT Eben Britton [Arizona]Analysis: They traded away the overrated Jason Peters. Britton can replace him for less money.
29. New York Giants: WR Kenny Britt [Rutgers]Analysis: If the Newsday report that the Braylon Edwards trade is dead, the Giants need a wideout to replace the one who shot himself in the leg. Britt is familiar to team management because he played next door and he's got a good combo of size and speed.
30. Tennessee Titans: CB Darius Butler [Connecticut]Analysis: They need a WR badly, but they never draft wideouts in the first round. CB is also a need and Butler, while small, has the playmaking skills the Titans want.
31. Arizona Cardinals: RB Donald Brown [Connecticut]Analysis: Nobody needs a RB more than the Cardinals and Brown is the best one left.
32. Pittsburgh Steelers: C Max Unger [Oregon]Analysis: The Steelers need a center and I have Unger pegged as the best.
