Rajasthan Royals won by 8 wickets

Presentation:

Siddharth Trivedi: I stuck to my basics, the length balls were coming onto the bat and I had to vary the pace too. I am working hard on the variations, this time around I am working more on my length deliveries. Lucky that Shane Warne is backing me up.

Siddharth Trivedi is the Man of the Match for his bowling performance.

Shane Warne: In the previous 3 tournaments, we were smacked right in the first game, good to start the tournament with a win. It was the first game and the guys were nervous, all credit to them, they did well to restrict them to 137. It was good to have guys like Botha and Taylor in our side, we were an over behind but we knew that we could make up for it in the end. There is a lot of things to improve, we need to be better with the over rate too.

Sangakkara: We were about 20 runs short, we lost a couple of wickets at crucial times, there was a good rearguard action by a couple of batsmen lower down the order and there are a couple of positives to take out from this game. The wicket was good, the bowlers had something to cheer about and we were in the game right until the end. We need to brush up a couple of things and there's no reason why we can't win.

Deccan Chargers were up against the mother of all jinxes. They had never won a game in front of their home crowd in Hyderabad, and had finished second-best in each of their six previous games against Rajasthan Royals. Things did not change at the end of their IPL 2011 opener against a limited, but inspired outfit.

A visibly slimmer Shane Warne, with his eyebrows tweezed and sporting a brighter shade of blue than last year, led Rajasthan with aplomb, and his team responded well. Siddharth Trivedi choked Deccan's run flow with a canny spell of slow bouncers, before Johan Botha, elevated to the No. 3 spot, guided them past the target of 138 in the 19th over
