The MLS has a hit on it's hands in Toronto judging by the atmosphere that the fans created yet again during the MLS All-Star game. It had everything the fans would want -- goals, some close calls from Beckham (two free kicks and a near miss in the box) and the game winner from hometown boy, DeRosario. All in all a perfect night. And it may get better for Canadian fans as commissioner Don Garber announcing that 2 more teams will be added in 2011 with Montreal and Vancouver as strong candidates.
MLS has to be satisfied with both the outcome and the quality of play from their side. MLS controlled most of the second half and could easily have scored two or three more goals in the second half. There was more than one beautiful builds by the MLS side that resulted in real opportunities -- one of which went in but was called back on a dubious offside call. It was fun to watch And it's a clear indication that the quality of the game here is improving quickly. Fans should be excited.
Just making it to the Major League Soccer All-Star game was a "nightmare" for Dwayne DeRosario. Once he arrived, it turned into a night he'll never forget. The Houston midfielder scored a tiebreaking penalty, Chicago midfielder Cuauhtemoc Blanco had one goal and helped set up another, and the MLS All-Stars posted a 3-2 victory over English Premier League team West Ham United on Thursday night. "A game like this in my hometown, I can't ask for anything more, especially to have an opportunity to have an impact in the game," said DeRosario, who grew up in suburban Toronto. "For me, it's a dream come true."
