They broke the 0-14 record set

by the expansion Tampa Bay

Buccaneers in 1976.

The Lions haven't had the top overall pick since 1980 when they took Oklahoma running back Billy Sims. He led the league in touchdowns his rookie season and made the Pro Bowl his first three years. But knee injuries ended his career after only five seasons.

The Lions took Boston College offensive tackle Gosder Cherilus with their first-round pick, No. 17 overall, last season. They selected Georgia Tech wide receiver Calvin Johnson second overall in 2007. He had a breakout season this year with 1,331 receiving yards and a league-leading 12 receiving touchdowns.
