The Red Wings controlled the game in their usual style but Pittsburgh's young team managed to hang around until the final seconds. It was close to a repeat of game six when the Pens managed to tie the game in the final seconds, managing to win in the third overtime period.
In the end the Wings won the seven-game series in 4 - 2, not allowing a goal in the first two games. The Penguins proved to be the toughest test for a team that handled the playoffs in what could best be described as "professionally", without really being pushed to the brink by any team they faced. Detroit was also the first team to beat Pittsburgh on home ice at the Mellon Arena.
Henrik Zetterberg won the Conn Smythe trophy as the most valuable player in the playoffs. In the end it was Zetterberg's third period goal that stood as the difference. He snuck a wrist shot through Penguin's goalie Marc-Andre Fleury, who pushed the puck into the net as he fell backwards in an attempt to cover it up. The Pens made it tight scoring on a powerplay in the final two-minutes.

Now all that's left is the odd silence as the commentators try to do play by play as the Wings skate the Cup around the rink... oh, and a parade as well.
