Devils' Brodeur to have surgery, out 3-4 months

Martin Brodeur, arguably the greatest goaltender of all-time is to have surgery on his elbow and will be out up to 4months. This is a huge blow to the New Jersey Devils as he has been the backbone of the team for the past decade. A team relying on their defence and goaltending will have to put the goaltending load on Kevin Weekes who barely gets any game action playing behind Brodeur in New Jersey.
New Jersey Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur is expected to miss up to four months after undergoing elbow surgery.
The 36-year-old Brodeur will undergo surgery Thursday to repair the distal bicep in the left elbow, the Devils said Tuesday.
Brodeur was injured Saturday against Atlanta. He made five saves before leaving the game 6:38 into the second period and was relieved by Kevin Weekes, who posted 14 stops as Brodeur picked up career win No. 544.
He was seen on his knees laboring his elbow on Saturday against the Atlanta Thrashers. The 15-year veteran is eight wins away from breaking Patrick Roy's NHL record for career wins at 551 and with 98 career shutouts, he is just five shutouts away from Terry Sawchuk's NHL record of 103. With a healthy return, he should be able to break Roy's record this season but might have to wait till next season to break Sawchuk's shutout record. Definitely a huge blow to the Devils.
