Did Yuri Wright Blow College Football Career with Sexist Tweets?
Yuri Wright Twitter Stream: High School Student Expelled
Don Bosco Prep senior Yuri Wright had a bright future in football, at least until he discovered Twitter. Wright is a highly-ranked cornerback who has attracted Big Ten attention, at least until this week.
Yuri Wright's racist, sexist tweets got him expelled from Don Bosco Prep, a New Jersey Catholic school; this means that Notre Dame is sure to back off from recruiting him. University of Michigan has already passed on Wright as well: his stock is dropping. Wright has his eye on Rutgers and Colorado, too: will the story get too big in New Jersey for Rutgers to offer him a scholarship?
Yuri Wright's Twitter Feed: Not Really All That Private (NSFW)
Yuri Wright's Twitter account is now deleted and his offending tweets (there were dozens and dozens) were reportedly deleted, but the internet is forever, as we all know by now (and as Yuri Wright is just learning). Chat Sports has some of Yuri Wright's greatest hits, and here are a few standouts.
Basically, Wright really, really likes having sex, but doesn't really know too much about how it all works, and doesn't quite seem to see women as real people. NSFW tweets below:
- "So we learning about the pussy and the teacher tells me when a girl squirts that's not a organism"
- "Yo my pops just drove by and splash some jewish lady with mad water..."
- "Lmao you these fuckin bitches be lyin son like niggas don't know lol i just laugh at these dumb ass girls sometimes"
- "What! even if ha pussy da bomb I still gotta get that doom"
- "I can't even trust my mother what makes you think ill ever be able to trust a bitch...."
- "Its like I need pussy everyday to be satisfied going to school with a whole bunch of guys sucks"
[sic] throughout, and we think he meant "dome", and not "doom".
Yuri Wright had a football scholarship on the line, and obviously not an academic scholarship: even taking Twitter abbreviations into account, this is borderline illiterate. He managed to misspell "ho", which is no mean feat: he spelled it "hoe", as in the garden implement. This was a joke used in House Party, by the way.
Are Yuri Wright's thoughts really much different than those of any other teenage boy? To be honest, we don't think so. Most high school kids aren't as worldly or smart or experienced as they think they are, and their attitudes toward sex tend to be, well, immature.
However, college football recruiters can see this sort of thing as a deal-breaker: for every available spot, there are hundreds of athletes vying for a chance, so recruiters will never run out of talent. If faced with one prospect who looks like a jerk online and one who doesn't, recruiters will most likely go with the non-jerk.
By the way, what's going on in Don Bosco Prep's English classes?
“He’s a good kid and I think he has a bright college future and I wish him the best of luck,” Don Bosco coach Greg Toal said. “There is no question Don Bosco had to do what it had to do.”
Another strange aspect to this story: while Yuri Wright is ultimately responsible for what he puts online, where was his coach? Surely Greg Toal understands that recruiters check social media when they scout. It's called "scouting" because they're watching you.
Wright's Twitter account was set to private, at least right before it was deleted, but, if at least 1,600 people can read what you write, "private" is a relative term.

Coach Toal absolutely knows that recruiters check social media. He has told the players to stay off of it... Yuri thought he was above that and now is paying the price.

Does anyone know what time of day Yuri wrote this stuff? Was it after school? Does he live at this school? Asking this since I do not know much about Don Bosco Prep, except it's a good school by word of mouth. The reason I ask if he wrote these remark is since last week two big cases were in court were student wrote some pretty nasty stuff which makes Yuri look like a catholic school boy! Oh wait he is a catholic school boy. lol. Well the students won the cases. The court wrote since the things were written after school on their personal time. The schools have no say, and can not hold things written on the student personal computers after school against them! Yuri will sue the school and win! Unless he was stupid and wrote this stuff during school! Please say he wrote this stuff after school!!!! Come on, he can't be that stupid! Plus Hey Moms & Dads! Tell your kids to stop tweeting during school, and do something worth it like pay attention to the teacher or even better atleast use your fancy phone to video tape your teacher doing something wrong like smoking weed! I'm so glad when I grew up we didn't have all this crap! Whatever happened to shooting a rubber band at each other, or just saying to your friends when you see them all that bull crap! Don't write it out or video tape yourself doing bad things jackass! I still hope this Yuri Wright did not write this stuff during school hours! He can't be that stupid! Plus who WRITES I don't trust my own mom?!!! Damn kid! Your mom must still be kicking your butt!

wow. you probably won't or didn't graduate high school either. this is bad because he was being recruited and in somewhat of a lime light. like an earlier post said...it's one thing to say this to your friends, but to post it on twitter with 1600 followers is idiotic. he deserves what he gets for being a dumba$$. "uptight white people"? LOL how about "ghetto black people"? how does that sit with you? doesn't feel good does it? how about you grow up and not stereotype DlCK!

He was expelled and so no high school diploma and so not eligible for ANY college. This young man doesn't even seem to be writing on a level that should award him a high school diploma, especially from a private school where academic standards are held to a high degree - at least supposedly held to a high degree. The less than literate comments perpetuate perceptions that the school [Don Bosco] allows those with athletic skills to slide by with far less than adequate academic performance to otherwise graduate.
