Dikembe Mutombo May Have Been Involved in a Gold Scam

Well, this is depressing. Former NBA big man Dikembe Mutombo appears to have been wrapped up in some sort of gold scam. According to a report in the Houston Chronicle, Mutombo may have been involved in a deal to sell more than 1,000 pounds of gold from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, his place of birth, to a businessman named Kase Lawal.

Lawal reportedly flew to Kenya to pick up the gold, only to have his plane, gold and money seized by Congolese officials

During his long NBA career, Mutombo was known as a lovable big man with a gravelly voice and unique way with the English language. He was also known for his humanitarian work.
