Dion Phaneuf laid out Michael Sauer during the Maple Leafs-Rangers game on Monday, December 5, 2011.

The Dion Phaneuf hit on Michael Sauer came with about five minutes left in the game. Sauer handled the puck along the boards when Phaneuf absolutely obliterated him. Sauer laid on the ice for a moment and eventually made his way off the ice, although he definitely looked shaken up.

Sauer is reportedly suffering from an "upper body injury."

One odd thing about the Dion Phaneuf-Michael Sauer video. Cameras show Phaneuf's dad in the crowd getting high-fived after the big hit. The father of Leafs players were at the game for a "Dad's road trip." When Phaneuf laid the hit on Sauer, cameras caught Phaneuf's dad being congratulated by other players' dads.
