Dorell Wright Arrested for Driving Under the Influence
The Miami Heat forward was arrested Thursday morning for driving while under the influence of alcohol by Miami Beach police. According to the Miami Herald Wright was driving at around 3:37am at12th Street and Alton Road when police stopped him for speeding and swerving across the road. A police officer told NBC that Wright was swerving in to another lane in his 2005 two-door white Bentley. He was also going 52 mph in a 35 mph zone and almost hit a taxi when he changed lanes and did not single.
In the police report, it states that when the police approached the vehicle after they stopped him, they noticed that Wright was slurring his speech, he smelled of alcohol and he had red eyes. He did not consent to a sobriety test however, and he was driving on a suspended license with no proof of insurance. He was arrested on the spot.
He has since been released on a $2,000 bond from Miami's Pretrial Detention Center, although the Globe and Mail is reporting that Wright was released on a $1,000 bond.
Wright has played with the Miami Heat since the organization drafted him as an 18-year-old in 2004.
Earlier in the evening on Wednesday, Dorell Wright played for about 22 minutes in the Miami Heat game against the Los Angeles Clippers. He scored one point in the game.
He has not commented on his arrest and the Miami Heat team has not released any statement on the matter as of this time.
