Today over 12,500 runners took to the streets of Dublin to finish a gruelling race of fitness, stamina and character. This was a big occasion as Dublin celebrated the 30th anniversary of the first Dublin Marathon.
The competitors came from 50 countries to join the fun and represent both the elite and normal pace runners. See photos of competitors from France, Belgium, Italy, Canada etc etc.
The men's race was won by Feyisa Lilisa from Ethiopa and it being a good day to set upa record Lilisa finished just 4 seconds outside the record - which won have won him a car as well as the €15,000 prize fund. A nice return for 2 hours, 9 minutes and 11 seconds of running. See photo of Lilisa at the 21 mile mark.
The women's race was won by Katerina Stetsenko from Ukraine in a time of 2:32:45. See Katerina in the yellow top at the 21 mile mark.
A huge proportion of the young population of Dubin were out in full voice cheering on the competitors and offering oranges, sweets and water to the brave athletes. They cheered louder and offered more encouragement to any competitor thinking of abandoning the race.
