Monday, 1 June 2009 19:13
The 27th Flora Women's Mini Marathon attracted over 40,000 entrants on Bank Holiday Monday with victory going to Rosemary Ryan.
The Limerick native clocked a time of 34 minutes 36 second which was more than a minute faster than last years winning time.
Offaly woman Pauline Curley came in second, a full minute behind the winner and 40 year-old Annette Kealy from Raheny ran in third in 36:03, with Siobhan O'Doherty from Tipperary fourth in 36:41.
The Flora Women's Mini Marathon in Dublin (Ireland) is the biggest all women's event of its kind in the world. It has grown steadily in numbers since it began in 1983 with its popularity increasing significantly over the last few years.
Over the years some 600,000 women have entered the event - and the Flora Women's Mini Marathon had a record field of 40,516 on Bank Holiday Monday, June 2nd, 2008.

Only women are permitted to take part in this event but as you can see from the photographs and video there are some very strange looking women.
