FC Twente Stadium Collapse in Enschede

One person was killed and 14 injured as De Grolsch Veste Stadium, home to FC Twente, partially collapsed. The stadium, located in Enschede, Netherlands, was undergoing renovations to expand its seating capacity when part of the roof caved in over a section of seats behind one of the goals.

Those caught in the Dutch stadium collapse were construction workers: no game was underway. Rescue workers used sniffer dogs to help look for anyone else who could be trapped beneath the collapsed stadium roof, though nobody else has since been found.

De Grolsch Veste ("The Grolsch Fortress") was formerly known as Arke Stadion.

"It is terrible. One person has died and 14 others were injured. Ten of them were taken to hospital. Two of those are seriously injured," Mayor Peter den Oudsten told a press conference in the city of Enschede.
