The Edmonton Oilers narrowly beat the Montreal Canadiens, 3-2 at Rexall Centre.  Oilers goalie Nikolai Khabibulin had a terrific game, making 33 saves for the win.

"He got us the two points tonight," said Oilers head coach Pat Quinn. "He was very sharp. He was ready to play right off the bat which was a good thing because we certainly let him get tested right off the bat. For the most part, he was the story for us."

Only this time Edmonton, despite being outshot 35-19, closed the game, improving their record to 2-1-1. The Habs, on the last game of a five-game road trip, fell to 2-3.
