Boxer Edwin Valero Has Been Arrested For the Murder of His Wife Jennifer Carolina Viera de Valero

Venezuelan boxer Edwin Valero has been arrested for killing his wife, 24-year-old Jennifer Carolina Viera de Valero. Officials said that the Edwin Valero arrest came after his wife's body was found in a hotel in the Venezeulan city of Valencia.

Valero reportedly left their hotel room early Sunday and told hotel staff that he had killed his wife.

"At 5.30 in the morning, the boxer came down to reception and communicated to security staff what he had done inside the room," police commissioner Wilmer Flores Trosel told reporters, saying Valero had made a confession.
Police did not provide further details.

Edwin Valero is the current WBC lightweight belt holder. Many thought Valero might be in line to fight top fighter Manny Pacquiao. Valero was unbeaten in 27 professional bouts.

This is not the first time Edwin Valero has been involved in a violent incident outside the ring. On September 27, 2009, Valero was arrested for assaulting his mother and sister. No charges were filed.

Last month, Valero was accused of attacking his wife. Valero allegedly threatening medical personnel who treated her for bruises and a damaged lung.

Due to personal problems, the World Boxing Council made Edwin Valero its "champion in recess." Mexico's Humberto Soto took over as The WBC Lightweight champion.

In the past, Edwin Valero had struggled with drug and alcohol problems. Valero also suffered brain damage after a motorcycle accident.

Edwin Valero and Jennifer Carolina Viera de Valero had two children together.
