“I cannot even compare a Grand Slam and the Olympic Games because it’s just so much bigger,” Dementieva said. “This is a dream for every athlete, just to be here. But to be an Olympic champion, this is the top of the career.”
“I never expected a medal—gold, silver or bronze,” said Dementieva, 26. “It’s unbelievable. For me this is the best moment in my career. I’ll never forget it.”

Elena Dementieva did well winning the Olympic gold, along with her Russian compatriots who won the silver and bronze. Elena's feat is noted on the WTA world rankings as she moved from # 7 to # 5 this week. Way to go Elena!
