England cricket hit as captain, coach resign after long feud

English Cricket captain Kevin Pitersen and coach Peter Moores have resigned after Public feud.

The England and Wales Cricket Board is expected to make a statement this afternoon on the future of Kevin Pietersen and Peter Moores. The England batting coach, Andy Flower, has been offered the role of interim head coach for the forthcoming tour to the West Indies. Andrew Strauss is the most favourite to succeed Pietersen as captain despite the lack of an official confirmation or denial.

Pietersen spoke to Sky News on the phone saying: "I am not in a fit state to talk."

The pair have been involved in a public row over the future of the national side.

Pietersen quit claiming the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) did not act quickly enough over the affair.

Moores' decision comes as he faced growing criticism over the row and the development of the England team during his time as coach.

Former England bowler Dominic Cork told Sky News: "English cricket is in disarray at the moment."

And Middlesex spinner Shaul Udal added: "Every year is important in Test cricket but this is a huge year and to have such turmoil going on a couple of weeks away from going to the West Indies is far from ideal."

Former skipper Alec Stewart said: ""It's about working with the authorities - in this case the ECB, the coach - planning for game practice sessions, etc.

"It appears Pietersen had a different outlook to Peter Moores in how they wanted the team to move foward."

English cricket has been in crisis since the late 80s. I'm sorry. I really do like England but they're hardly a world class outfit. The very fact that a tour to the West Indies is considered "huge" (let's not forget that the Windies have waned even more drastically than England in the past 15 years) illustrates that English cricket is in a sorry state. Please employ competent scouts. You need better players not a better political regime in the ECB!

it's a disaster ..total blooking disaster, for the best cricketer in the country and the head coach to resign at the same time ....is not good....i think it's a safe bet to say that the Aussie's are lapping it up....
