England Cricket Test Match: Alastair Cook Unbeaten at 139
England's Alastair Cook topped his highest cricket Test match score with an unbeaten 139 ending the fourth Test with a draw against the West Indies. The record hitting 139 is Cook's highest Test match score, one he has only reached 8 times in his career.
England had been trailing far behind the West Indies but in a surprise move caught up after two wickets to end the Test match at Bridgetown, Barbados, in a tie.
Cook's eighth Test century was also his highest Test score while Kevin Pietersen weighed in with 72 not out as the tourists remained one down in the series with one match to come.The pair shook hands with their West Indian opponents at 3.50pm local time after declaring on 279 for two.
England declared at 279 for two wickets after any hopes of a win disappeared when the Windies amassed 749 for nine declared on Sunday in reply to the tourists first innings of 600 for six declared.
Having been dismissed for just 51 already in this campaign, England highlighted the freak nature of that day at Sabina Park by comfortably wiping out their 149-run deficit on first innings.
The draw in this Test match leaves England trailing in the five-Test series 0-1, after an innings and 23-run loss in the opening Test at Sabina Park in Jamaica. The second Test was never played and the third also ended in a tie.
The fifth and final Test of this series starts Friday March 6, 2009 at Queen's Park Oval Port of Spain, Trinidad.
