Eric Bruntlett Unassisted Triple Against The Mets Coverage

Philadelphia Phillie second baseman Eric Bruntlett turned a rare unassisted triple play at the end of Phillies' 9-7 victory over the New York Mets. The Eric Bruntlett unassisted triple play was the 15th unassisted triple play in major league history and only the second to ever end a game.

So what is an unassisted triple play? Simply put, it's when one player manages to personally get three players out in a single play.

Eric Bruntlett managed to pull off the feat in the bottom of the 9th. With runners on first and second in the ninth inning, New York Mets slugger Jeff Francoeur hit a line drive up the middle while two base runners attempted to steal a base. Bruntlett easily snagged the line drive, touched second base to tag up Luis Castillo and tagged base runner who was trying to steal second. The Eric Bruntlett unassisted triple play made up for an error that Bruntett made on the previous play that allowed the winning run to come to the plate.

The last Phillies player to pull off an unassisted triple play was Mickey Morandini back in 1992.
