We have an early candidate for Hit of the Year in college football. During the LSU-Mississippi State game on Thursday, September 15, 2011, Tigers safety Eric Reid laid a vicious hit on running back Vic Ballard.

The Eric Reid hit on Vic Ballard came in the third quarter with the score 9-6. Ballard catches a pass on the 50-yard line when he is absolutely drilled by Eric Reid. While many big hits are controversial, there doesn't seem to be much debate here: it was a clean hit, and a devastating one.

LSU went on to beat Mississippi State 19-6.  MSU has lost 19 of its last 20 games against LSU.
