Okada was promoted to Japan national coach during the final Asian qualifiers for the World Cup in 1997 after head coach Shu Kamo was fired.
He was appointed manager of Consadole Sapporo in the J-League second division in 1999 and guided the team to promotion to the first division the following year.
Okada took the helm at Yokohama F Marinos in the top flight from 2003, leading the club to two consecutive titles. He currently has a special assignment conducting environmental conservation activities for the JFA.
As of Tuesday morning, Okada had not made his intentions clear on whether he was considering an offer, Kyodo reported.
