F1 new scoring system reversed back to the old

Formula 1 has reverted back to the old scoring system as many F1 teams are protesting the new scoring formula. The surprising decision comes only days before the start of the 2009  F1 season on March 29. However, the FIA did not eliminate the new system but instead postponed it to the 2010 season.

The new changes award teams for winning races instead of being credited for points. The current F1 points system credits the top three drivers with ten, eight, and six points which is accumulated throughout the season to see who has the most points in the end. The new system will only credit the winner, with the crown awarded to the racer who finishes in first place the most times in a season. If the system was in place in 2008, Lewis Hamilton would finish second behind Felipe Massa.

FIA had argued that the new scoring system would make racing more exciting by encouraging drivers to chase wins.

But several drivers, among them defending champion Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso, criticised the change.

The F1 Season begins on March 29 with the Australian Grand Prix.
