Fans and Media Call For Romeo Crennel To Be Fired As Cleveland Browns Head Coach
A growing chorus of voices is demanding that Cleveland Browns head coach Romeo Crennel be fired. Crennel has led the underachieving Browns to a dismal 4-7 record. Their latest loss came at the hands of the struggling Houston Texans. In the loss, the Browns defense allowed the Texans anemic offense to gain nearly 400 yards.
As the losses continue to pile up, there are increasing calls from media and fans to fire Crennel, who has earned a reputation for being a poor motivator and game manager. Crennel has also been blasted for mishandling his quarterbacks and sticking with veterans rather than developing younger players.
Cleveland Plain Dealer sports columnist Bob Shaw believes that the loss to the Texans is the final straw.
The ho-hum, seen-it-before nature of another inexplicable loss at home is, in fact, what will cost Crennel his job. No one who knows him delights in that. And those who don't and have put their desires in writing -- a "Cowher09.com" banner was conspicuous in the wide open spaces of the second deck Sunday -- shouldn't kid themselves that a change will suddenly restore the organization to the prideful days of Paul Brown.
Rumors persist that the Browns are talking to former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Bill Cowher about taking over the head coaching position in Cleveland.
For the time being, however, it appears that Crennel still has a job. It seems that Browns GM Phil Savage has been a lot more charitable to Crennel than he was to a Browns fan who recently e-mailed him.

Thoroughly enjoyed attending sessions of the 2008 Browns Training Camp in Berea with my children this past August. It made for a perfect family friendly and fun activity.
This picture of Coach Crennel was taken during one of those training camp sessions.
