Fans Riot After Penn State Football Game
Fans of Penn State's got a little too rowdy after the Nittany Lion 13-6 win over Ohio State. Students poured onto Beaver Avenue, where most post-game celebrations in State College, Pennsylvania. Things quickly spun out of control and local riot police were called in, a move that may have exacerbated the problem.
This time, in the midst of spirit-filled chanting, students ripped down street signs, set fire to bushes and toppled parking meters.
There were no serious injuries, according to police, who on Sunday would not discuss the use of Mace and other details about their response. Arrests are expected, they said.
Officers from surrounding townships, clad in riot gear, emptied cans of pepper spray into crowds of bystanders, who in response chanted: "Please don't Mace us!"
"No one did anything bad until the cops showed up," said Ryan Beberus, a senior from Dallas, Pa. "I guess the sight of riot police is enough to start a riot."
