FIFA chief Launches Twitter Account, Official World Cup 2010 Twitter Accounts, List of Footballers Who Tweet

The head of FIFA, Joeseph "Sepp" Blatter, has joined Twitter a sign that FIFA World Cup is beginning to embrace social media.

The Twitter account for Sepp Blatter is @seppblatter. The head of FIFA issued a statement on FIFA's website.


We are approaching the first FIFA World Cup in which social media websites will play an important role in connecting everyone who cares about the game of football. I’m very excited to be sharing my own personal experience of the 2010 FIFA World Cup with football fans from all over the world.”

The other official FIFA accounts are a Twitter feed that will showcase interviews and news ( @FIFAcom ), plus a Twitter feed that will provide live coverage of all 64 soccer matches (@FIFAcomLive).

There are of course lots unofficial world cup Twitter Feeds. Here is a quick rundown of some them

  1. @WorldCupCNN/footballers - this is a great one - a Twitter List of Footballers who tweet
  2. @worldcupblog - a Twitter feed of a group blog powered by dedicated passionate soccer fans.
  3. @ussoccer - the Twitter feed for the U.S. men's soccer team
  4. @OfficialRonaldo - Men want to play like him, women want to play with him, Christiano Ronaldo is likely the most popular soccer star in the world
  5. @landondonovan - the Twitter feed for the star of the U.S. men's soccer team
  6. @RealKaka-  one of the many stars of the Brazilian team has over 700,00 followers on Twitter.
