In front of a 80,000 spectators Hongkou Stadium in Shanghai, the Australian Olyroos lost 1-0 to powerhouse Argentina in tonight's Olympic Summer Games football (soccer) action.

After holding Argentina to a scorless draw at half time, the Olyroos entered the second half in better shape than most would have predicted.

In this closely fought first half, where Agentina carried most of the play, Australia managed to keep the superstar laden squad off the scoreboard, and even successfuly defended two penaltiy kicks.

Billy Celeski of Australia had the best chance of the first half after some nifty footwork in close in the Arentine penalty zone.

But in the second half  after 77 minutes of scorelessness Lavezzi scored for Argentina, breaking the hearts of the Aussie hopefuls, who were starting to woner if they were about to pull off a victory they did not earn.

Australia's two best chances came from the boot of Nikita Rukavytsya who came on as a substitute in the second half.

But, in reality, it was Argentina's match from the opening kick. The legendary South American football nation controlled the ball so exclusively that the Australian Channel broadcaster referred to the Argentine netminder as the "Forgotten Man" of the match.
