Florida Wins 13-3 Over LSU, Tebow Throws for TD
Florida Gators' won 13-3 over the LSU Tigers in front of a record attendance of 93,129 at Tiger Stadium, in Baton Rouge, LA.
Tim Tebow played a solid game, throwing a 24 yard pass to Gators receiver Riley Cooper for the only touchdown of the game. Tebow managed to play well despite all the hoopla surrounding his comeback from a concussion suffered two weeks ago in Kentucky.
The real story of the game is the dominating performance of the Gators' defense. They completely shut down LSU in the second half, allowing only 44 total yards on offense.
With 9:09 left in the first quarter -- Florida's first offensive possession of the game -- Peterson tackled Florida quarterback Tim Tebow on perfectly timed delayed blitz. Tebow didn't see it coming until the last possible moment and Peterson, a graduate of Pompano Beach Blanche Ely, slammed UF's quarterback to the field. Tebow's head snapped back and smacked the field.
Tebow took every snap, but the way the Gators bottlenecked LSU's skill players, UF could likely have let backup quarterback John Brantley have his first career start and still prevailed.
Coach Meyers redesigned his offense attack to de-emphasize the QB option running game, as a way to protect Tebow.
Meyer candidly admitted that he rejiggered his offense to take much of the running burden off Tebow. The option was largely deleted from the game plan, and Meyer called for handoffs on a couple of the short-yardage plays that have long been Tebow's specialty.
