Former NHL goalkeeper Clint Malarchuk accidentally shot himself in the chin with a .22-calibre rifle on Tuesday.

According to a report in the The Record Courier of Nevada, police were dispatched to Malarchuk's home after his wife reported the shooting. When officers arrived on the scene, they found the former Buffalo Sabres goalkeeper bleeding profusely from the mouth and chin.

Malarchuk's wife said when she arrived home from work her husband was in the backyard, and said he had been shooting rabbits with a .22 rifle. She said Malarchuk stood and placed the rifle butt on the ground between his legs and the rifle discharged, striking him in the chin.

He reportedly was belligerent with paramedics and with health center staff, refusing treatment.

This isn't the first-time that Malarchuk has suffered a bloody injury. While with the Buffalo Sabres, Malarchuk was involved in one of the most gruesome incidents in NHL history. During a game against St. Louis in 1989, the goaltender had his jugular vein severed by another player's skate and nearly died. Footage of the incident can be scene here (although it's not for the faint of heart).

Malarchuk made a full recovery from the 1989 injury and is currently working as the goaltending coach for the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets.

While I would never wish this to happen to any body, the fact that it happened to Clint Malarchuck is absolutely hilarious. I mean, oh all the NHL players this could have happened to, it happens to the one goaltender who had his jugular vein slashed in a game. Add to it the fact that he survived both accidents, and you don't feel as bad laughing about the irony of the whole situation.

Has anyone thought of how is his wife doing after having to watch her husband get shot.

Ya his ex wife is my Auntie. He has a son named Jed which is my cousin. We visited his wife after that happened and she was ok once she found out it was not life risking.
