NFL Hall of Famer Fran Tarkenton recently blasted Brett Favre in a radio interview yesterday. The former Minnesota Vikings legend criticized Favre for his flirtations with Minnesota Vikings.

Tarkenton appeared on Atlanta's 790 The Zone  and criticized Favre's departure from the Packers and his tenure with the Jets.

“I think it’s despicable. What he put the Packers through last year was not good,” Tarkenton told 790 the Zone in Atlanta. “Here’s an organization that was loyal to him for 17, 18 years, provided stability of organization, provided players. It just wasn’t about Brett Favre. In this day and time, we have glorified the Brett Favre’s [sic] of the world so much, they think it’s about them. He goes to New York and bombs. He’s 39 years old. How would you like Ray Nitschke in his last year (playing for) the Vikings, or I retire, and go play for the Packers. I kind of hope it happens, so he can fail.”

The next day Tarkenton returned to The Zone 790 to do some damage control. He ended up doing more damage.

I had an opinion that was not in agreement with Brett Favre's opinion. Now, have the sportswriters and sportscasters across the country, have they just sucked up to Brett Favre and glorified Brett Favre on this subject matter - don't they have an opinion? They certainly haven't expressed it have they?"

The controversial comments are out of character for Tarkenton, who in not known for being ornery. Fran Tarkenton racked up some impressive stats during his career, although he is best known for losing three Super Bowls between 1974 and 1977. For people of a certain age, he is best known as the co-host of the 70s TV show That's Incredible.
