New York Mets pitcher Francisco Rodriguez was arrested and charged with third degree assault after an altercation with his father-in-law at the Mets' clubhouse. Rodriguez' father-in-law was taken to the hospital with facial and head injuries.

Francisco Rodriguez, currently with the Mets on a three-year, $37 million contract,  has a history of getting into arguments with teammates and opponents alike, though none had escalated to this point.

Before the incident, Rodriguez had snapped at reporters after the Mets had lost to the Rockies.

"There was an incident between Francisco Rodriguez and his family tonight at the ballpark," said Jay Horwitz, the Mets' VP of media relations, in a verbal statement. "He was questioned by police. All other questions pertaining to this incident will be referred to the police department."
