The Friday Mock Munch: Stafford maintains 1st pick status, but sl
Here is the weekly Friday NFL Mock Draft Database Munch. First up, the status of the Database.
Total NFL mock drafts: 287
Total Updated in March: 178
Total Updated TODAY: 42
For the Friday Munch, we munched all Mock Drafts updated from March 10th through TODAY. That is a a total of 151 Mock Drafts munched for our Consensus Projections. Updates are occurring much more rapidly, we suggest you check the Database at least daily if you are a mock draft or general NFL Draftnik!
So let's take a look at where the consensus Top 5 picks are as of today, munching all mocks updated between 3-10/09 and 3/27/09
1st Pick Overall (Detroit Lions): QB Matt Stafford (CONSENSUS)
QB Matt Stafford has been the top projected pick here since we started doing the Consensus Top Five Munch. Stafford has been consistently in the upper 60% mark but today falls, most likely do to the unsubstantiated rumors last week that Detroit was negotiating with OT Jason Smith. Stafford's projected percentage has gone down, Smith'1s has risen. Many mocks though didn't bite. Stafford still commands 59% of the 151 mocks munched. Jaosn Smith is second with 25%. Stafford's projected number is still high enough for us to declare him the NFL Mock Draft Database CONSENSUS Number 1 pick. (One to watch: OT Jason Smith)
2nd Pick Overall (St. Louis Rams): OT Jason Smith (No consensus)
OT Jason Smith remains strong here as the projected 2nd overall pick. This would be a smart pick for the Rams. Between Smith and OT Eugene Monroe, the Rams need offensive line help, and these are the best two OTs in the draft. Smith's numbers drop 8%, but that is because he gained overall as the 1st overall pick. He still garners 51% of projected mocks here as the 2nd pick, followed by OT Eugene Monroe with 38%. Smith's 51% is not high enough for us to declare him a consensus pick. (One to Watch: OT Eugene Monroe)
3rd Pick Overall (Kansas City Chiefs): LB Aaron Curry (CONSENSUS)
LB Aaron Curry has been the favorite here for weeks. He is the best defensive player int he draft and the Chiefs need defensive help. Not sure all Chiefs fans agree with taking a Linebacker 3rd overall, but Curry is going to be a fine NFL linebacker. He is strong, quick, and has the critical instincts to make an impact almost immediately in KC. Curry dropped 8%, but still captures 60% of the 151 munched mocks. The rest underneath Curry are scattered between several players. Next highest is DT BJ Raji with 7%. Still, Curry has enough for us to declare him the NFL Mock Draft Datbase CONSENSUS 3rd overall pick. (One to Watch: DT BJ Raji)
4th Pick Overall (Seattle Seahawks): OT Eugene Monroe (no consensus)
OT Eugene Monroe actually gained 4% in the weekly projection. Still not real big numbers, Monroe garners 30% of the 151 munched mocks. Analsysts can justifiably argue who is the better OT between Jason Smith and Eugene Monroe. Some mocks have Monroe going before Smith, most have Smith going before Monroe. This will be an interesting draft day watch. Gaining steam at #4 is WR Mike Crabtree. Crabtree once led here but the signing of WR TJ Houshmandzadeh in NFL free agency, dropped Crabtree real quick. But the addition of Crabtree would completely revamp Seattle's wide receivers. Right now Monroe is up to 30% followed by Crabtree with 15%. Monroe's 30% is not high enough for us to declare him a consensus pick. (One to Watch: QB Matt Stafford)
5th Pick Overall (Cleveland Browns): DE Brian Orakpo (CONSENSUS)
DE Brian Orakpo has stayed in the news because he continues to give good workouts and impresses. Could he move up beyond #5? I think Orakpo is the real deal and is going to be an instant impact on whichever Defense snags him. Unfortunately, I don't see Orakpo falling to my Redskins at #13. Orakpo's numbers continue to rise here as the 5th pick, now gathering 58% of the 151 munched mock drafts. Orakpo is followed by LB Aaron Curry with 8%, if Curry falls beyond #3. Some say Orakpo's size may be a little problem, but his athleticism, speed, and ability will overshadow any size issues. Orakpo has enough for us to declare him the NFL Mock Draft Datbase CONSENSUS 5th overall pick. (One to Watch: DE Everette Brown)
There you go, the Top 5 Leaders of the NFL Mock Draft Database munched picks for March 27th, 151 mocks updated between March 10 and March 27. You want a great picture of what the projections are, it gets no better than this.
